Born in the United States in 1915, Harry Bertoia studied at the prestigious Cranbrook Academy of Art. First interested in jewellery design due to his fascination with metal work, Bertoia opened his own workshop in 1939. He later worked for Charles and Ray Eames before collaborating with Knoll. His work with Knoll saw the development of his most famous piece, the Diamond Chair, as well as a number of other sculptural wire works. Famous for his skillful manipulation of metal materials, Bertoia enjoyed considerable commercial success in his lifetime, and his designs continue to remain popular today.
The Bertoia Side Chair makes an excellent accent chair, and is often used in small spaces where an ordinary chair would take up too much of the visual field. True to the original design, it can be used indoors or out.
