Designed in 1948 by prolific duo Ray and Charles Eames, the Dining height Side chair Rod base (DSR) was the winner of New York’s Museum of Modern Art international ‘Low-Cost Furniture Design’ competition.
Commonly referred to as the Eiffel chair in reference to its steel base, the DSR features an organically shaped bucket seat constructed of molded plastic. This bucket seat has since been redesigned to take advantage of the benefits of eco-friendly polypropylene and fiberglass accessible by progress in contemporary industries.
Considered a pioneer of its time as the first industrially manufactured plastic chair, the waterfall seat edge promotes an ergonomic base for extended periods of sitting, reducing pressure on thighs.

Charles & Ray Eames
Brought together by a mutual passion for design, their collaboration was the most famous and groundbreaking in the history of American design. The pair began working together in the 1930s before marrying in 1941, and together they created revolutionary pieces, including the “chair of the century”, their DCW made using moulded plywood. Their extensive range of furniture, principally chairs and office chairs, remain modern and stylish today.
